Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling®, officially known as “Compound Camphor Cream” (formerly “Bao Fu Ling宝肤灵”), is a flagship brand under Beijing Bao Shu Tang Sci-tech Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The brand’s story spans centuries, rooted in the ancient Hsieh family’s traditional Chinese medicine recipe from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and advancing into modern pharmaceutical innovation in China. The earliest history of Bao Shu Tang can be traced back to the Hsieh Family Shop, a traditional Chinese herbal pharmacy established in Taiwan during the Qianlong Emperor’s reign.

Over time, the Bao Shu Tang family refined their medical expertise and accumulated valuable experience in traditional Chinese medicine. In the 1970s, the Hsieh family pharmacy in Taiwan developed “Beauty Skin Cream,” which laid the foundation for the later creation of Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling®. In 1989, Mr. Kun Tsung Hsieh, the seventh-generation heir, responded to China’s reform and opening-up by founding Beijing Bao Shu Tang Chinese Herbal Medicine Co., Ltd. in Beijing, combining ancestral formulas with modern pharmaceutical technology. Since its inception, Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling® has adhered to the philosophy of “Uphold the science of life, improve the health of people, promote environmental consciousness, and maintain ecological balance,” ensuring product quality through scientific formulation and strict manufacturing processes.

In 1995, Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling® began its overseas expansion, and in 2000, it was awarded the “Golden Elephant Award for Excellent Product” at the 6th ASEAN Conference on Traditional Medicine and International New Achievements Exhibition of Traditional Medicine. In 2001, the company was renamed Beijing Bao Shu Tang Sci-tech Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and successfully passed the NMPA (China’s National Medical Products Administration) GMP certification, further strengthening production compliance.

The development of Bao Shu Tang is not only a story of family heritage but also a paradigm of the modernization and internationalization of China’s traditional medicine industry. As Chinese government regulations for the pharmaceutical sector became more stringent, Bao Shu Tang has consistently been at the forefront of compliance.

In 2003, new national regulations required all products included in the national drug standards to be marketed under their generic names. Bao Shu Tang promptly complied, renaming the original “Bao Fu Ling” product as “Compound Camphor Cream,” while registering “Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling®” and “BAOFULING®” as trademarks to maintain brand recognition and continually strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures.

Upholding its corporate philosophy, Bao Shu Tang continues to invest in research and technological advancement, blending the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine with modern pharmaceutical science to ensure scientifically formulated and effective products. Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling® Compound Camphor Cream contains multiple active ingredients, including camphor, menthol, methyl salicylate, diphenhydramine, chlorhexidine gluconate, and glycyrrhetinic acid, offering anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipruritic, and swelling-reducing benefits. It is widely used for insect bite dermatitis, eczema, pruritus, neurodermatitis, allergic dermatitis, papular urticaria, as well as scapular pain, muscle pain, and skin pain after burns.

The growth of Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling® is a vivid example of how a Chinese herbal medicine company can adapt to the times, respect the law, and relentlessly pursue innovation. In today’s increasingly robust regulatory environment, Bao Shu Tang is not only a guardian of its brand but also a model for compliance with Chinese pharmaceutical laws and regulations. Bao Shu Tang Bao Fu Ling® demonstrates how centuries-old heritage and modern innovation can blend perfectly to safeguard the skin health of millions of consumers.
